System Override Collection Event Patch Notes (2 March 2020)

The System Override Event runs March 3rd to the 17th.

  • Limited Time Mode – Deja Loot
    • Deja Loot is a unique take on the Apex games where “random” is a dirty word. A glitch in the system has caused all loot to spawn in the same location every match for the duration of the event. Even the plane path and circle locations will be fixed for this mode, which will change on a daily basis while the loot location stays the same for the whole event.
      • Features new equipment type: Evo Shield [see below for details]
      • The first week will be played on World’s Edge and the second week we’ll go back to Kings Canyon
    • New equipment type: Evo Shield
      • When you pick up Evo Shield it will start out weaker than a Common Body Shield (White), but as you do damage to non-downed players throughout the match it can become even stronger than Epic Body Shields (Purple). Evo Shields change color as they progress, but their perpetual distinctive glow will help you identify them. Progress also carries over from person to person, so look forward to some interesting late game scenarios.
        • To start the Evo Shield will be exclusive to the Deja Loot gamemode and spawn at higher rates; after the event we’ll consider adding the Evo Shield to all matches, so please give us your feedback.
      • Exclusive Event Prize Track with two Legendary Weapon skins
      • 24 Event Limited premium cosmetic available directly or through System Override Event Packs
      • Octane Heirloom Set Preview
        • Unlock all 24 System Override cosmetics during the event and unlock the Octane Heirloom set for free

Check out the full blog with the details here.

META CHANGES

BLOODHOUND

Designer note: The intent is for Bloodhound to use their tactical as they are approaching towns pre-combat versus reacting while in a fight.

  • Increased the scan distance for Eye of the Allfather by 3x.
    • Increased time to activate: .4s -> .8s
    • Increased duration of scan: 2s -> 3s

 GIBRALTAR

  • Gun Shield health reduced: 75 -> 50.

 CRYPTO

  • Primary weapons will now automatically reload while in drone view.

INVENTORY UPDATE

  • Base inventory slots increased 8 -> 10.
    • Common Backpack: expands inventory to 12 slots.
    • Rare Backpack: expands inventory to 14 slots.
    • Epic Backpack: expands inventory to 16 slots.
  • Grenade stacks reduced to 2 -> 1.
  • Light / Heavy / Energy ammo stacks reduced from 80 -> 60.
  • Syringe and Shield Cell stacks reduced from 6 -> 4.
  • Med Kit and Shield Battery stacks reduced from 3 -> 2.

PEACEKEEPER

  • Mag size reduced from 6 -> 5.
  • Increased reload time from 2.5s -> 2.65s.
  • Increased reload time with empty mag from 3.5s -> 3.6s.
  • Slightly increased the scale of the blast pattern from 1.6 -> 1.7.

 SENTINEL

  • Base damage increased from 65 -> 70
  • Reduced time it takes to rechamber from 1.85s -> 1.75s.

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Muzzle flash adjustments:
    • Reduced the intensity of muzzle flash while aiming down the sight for all weapons except shotties and snipers
  • Red dot has been added to the iron sights for Prowler and L-STAR; iron sights dot will stay properly centered during weapon sway and bob movements.
  • Heirloom crafting
    • We’re changing up the Heirloom system to make it easier for you to acquire the heirloom you want. Instead of an entire Heirloom set dropping at once, you’ll now receive Heirloom shards. You can then use those shards to pick the exact Heirloom set you’d like. The shards will have the same drop rate as the previous system, so that after 500 Apex Packs, you will have enough Heirloom Shards to obtain an Heirloom set from the Heirloom shop. And don’t worry, your existing progress towards the 500 Apex Packs will carry over with the switch. Remember that once a player owns all of the Heirloom sets, the player will not be eligible to receive more shards until more Heirloom Sets are added to the game.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed bug for cases where Bangalore would appear invisible when equipped with certain skins. The Apex Overdrive and Killer B skins have been re-enabled now for affected players.
  • For cases where sometimes Revenant’s Ultimate Totem could be destroyed or disabled when placed too close to some geometry, it will now be refunded back to the player at full charge when this happens.
  • Fixed a bug for where sometimes players would enter a match with a different character than they selected, and all loadouts being set back to default after the match.
  • Cleaned up some areas around World’s Edge with bad collision or provided ways for players to exploit them.
  • Fixed an exploit near Geyser where players could climb to a spot that provided an unfair advantage.
  • Fix for cases where players were able to punch and shoot enemies clipping through doors and other areas with thin geo.
  • Fixed bug for cases where full-auto mode would be disabled when players equipped the Anvil Receiver hop-up while in single-fire mode for R-301 or Flatline.
  • Fix for cases where there could be a delay with firing the Havoc after cancelling a reload.
  • Fixed a bug where players could place Gibraltar’s Dome Shield on Crypto’s Drone allowing the Dome to be mobile while in use.
  • Fixed bug for cases where players were able to reroll Daily Challenges without being charged the Legends Tokens for reroll.
  • Fixed a bug for cases where unlocking new badges would not trigger the red dot notification to make players aware a new badge is available.
  • Fixed a bug where if players were respawned while spectating someone under Revenant’s death protection, they would return in that state permanently and unable to use heal items.
  • Fixed players getting assist credit by using abilities that place status effects (e.g. Crypto Drone, Revenant tactical etc) on enemies after they are knocked down.
  • Fixes for cases where the Store would show placeholder images when content would be slow to load.
  • Fix for cases where audio from Wattson’s skydive emote would continue to play after she lands.
  • Stability fixes to reduce crashing and script errors.
  • Various stability and polish bug fixes for Firing Range.

Apex Legends Season 4: Assimilation Patch Notes

NEW BATTLE PASS

Over 100 exclusive items including Legendary skins, Apex Packs, Loading screens, Music Packs, and more! Check out everything in the Season 4 battle pass here.

NEW LEGEND: REVENANT

Consumed by hate and obsessed with revenge, Revenant uses unnatural abilities to haunt his enemies and defy death. Check out his bio.

PASSIVE
STALKER – You crouch walk faster and can climb higher up walls.

TACTICAL
SILENCE – Throw a device that deals damage and disables enemy abilities for 10 seconds.

ULTIMATE
DEATH TOTEM – Drop a totem that protects users from death. Instead of getting killed or downed, you will return to the totem [with X health]

LOW PROFILE
Revenant takes +5% damage.

NEW WEAPON: SENTINEL SNIPER RIFLE

Sentienl

The Sentinel is a bolt action sniper rifle, effective at medium to long range. If a player presses the “fire select” with a shield battery equipped, the Sentinel will consume the shield battery from your inventory and temporarily enters an energized state.
While energized, the Sentinel fires projectiles that deal massive damage to shields. The projectiles use different VFX trails, and there is a unique energized firing sound, so all nearby players know that the Sentinel is firing these higher damage projectiles.

The Sentinel has a limited amount of energy that decays slowly over time, and loses a big chunk of juice for each shot. Once the energy runs out, the energized state ends.

MAP UPDATE

Map

Our main goal for a map update, on the design side, is to get players to make new decisions.

By the end of a season, you probably have your favorite spot, or spots, to land. You might prefer to rotate out of your drop location in a certain direction which in turns makes a lot of your games feel similar as the season progresses.

Our goal as Designers is to offer new ways for you to approach the game, and in this case the map, so that each drop, rotation, and gunfight feels as fresh as possible. Here are a few things we’re doing in Season 4 to hopefully help achieve that.

You can read the full details of the changes in our blog here and you can check out the highlights below:

THE PLANET HARVESTER
With its large, multi-level design the Planet Harvester is unlike anything else on World’s Edge and brings exciting new gameplay options to the game.

CAPITOL CITY SPLIT IN TWO
Capitol City was the biggest POI in Season 3, getting the most action right out of the ship. By sending the fissure straight through Capitol City and creating some dead space in between (swallowing up one of the construction buildings as well), we essentially split this area into two separate zones for players to land in and loot: Fragment East and Fragment West.

THE UPDRAFTS
If you jump into the fissure that cuts through Capitol City you’ll slowly be carried back up from the heated, pressurized air, and allowed to coast across and land on the other side. This is balanced by two things. First, you take 25 damage from the intense heat and embers floating inside. This is a consistent amount of damage every time you drop back down. Second, you travel very slowly, in third person, while moving in the updraft.

SURVEY CAMP
This is a new, small POI in the snowy fields between the Epicenter and Skyhook.

WEAPON RACKS
These are guaranteed weapons placed on racks in the small buildings of Survey Camp. You’ll recognize them from Training or the Firing Range. This should give players who prioritize a good weapon over a premier drop location a new decision to make.

RANKED SERIES 3

ranked

For all the info on what’s changing for Series 3 check out our blog. Highlights below:

  • Moving to Splits per season, ~6 weeks of ranked play before a reset
  • Adding Master Tier, Apex Predator becomes top 500 players by platform.
  • Soft reset and scoring are the same, but soft reset is every split.
  • Dive trails will be moving to a seasonal reward model, but Series 1 & 2 players are grandfathered in.
  • The update to how assists are scored in Series 3 also applies to Revenant’s Silence ability.

ANNIVERSARY LOGIN GIFT

For the first week of Season 4 – Assimilation (Feb 4, 2020 – Feb 11, 2020), anyone who logs in during that time will receive the Anniversary Gift, which includes:

Year 1 Origami Flyer charm (if you’ve got any ideas for cotton, please let us know)
Year 1 Loyalty badge
10k XP for your first match of the day (available each day)
The Loyalty badge comes in 3 different flavors depending on when you took your first leap from the drop ship, so feel free to flex on all your latecomer buddies.

LOOT

NEW LOOT: SNIPER AMMO
[10 shots per pickup]
Designer Notes:
Our goal here is to create a deeper, more balanced long range meta. Since snipers shared ammo types with SMGs and LMGs, there wasn’t a great way to put ammo scarcity on sniper rifles without really penalizing the more ammo hungry weapons that used the same ammo type. So for Season 4 we’ve added a new class of ammo that only applies to Sniper Rifles that we hope will have players being careful about the shots they take and limit how long they can pressure targets at long range before having to reposition.

All snipers now take new ammo type:
– Sentinel
– Longbow DMR
– TripleTake
– Charge Rifle [now uses 1 sniper ammo per shot. Magazine holds 4 shots]

New attachment: extended magazine for Sniper ammo.

*ENERGY AMMO *
Now gives 30 ammo per pickup instead of 20. Most ammo players pick up comes from packs that spawn next to energy weapons on the ground. Now that there are only 2 energy ammo weapons in Apex, we needed to up the ammo per brick to keep energy ammo from being too scarce.

REMOVED LOOT: The following items have been removed from the game
– Turbocharger hop-up
– Extended mags for energy ammo [this change went out earlier than intended in the last update and should make sense with other changes in this patch but we wanted to include it here as well for players returning for Season 4 that were not aware].

GOLD BACKPACK
UI update to better convey to the player when they are using or being revived with the perk.

WEAPONS

Designer Notes: We want to shift up what weapons are the strongest. Also, we’re aiming to reduce the power of some weapons that seem too strong and give a little boost to some weapons that haven’t been performing as well as we’d like.

UPDATE TO IRONSIGHTS ACCURACY
Apex guns move around subtly while ADS — they rotate and sway as you move your aim, they bob up and down and side to side while moving, etc. We have special tech that makes sure the reticle on the optics stays centered even as the gun moves around a bit. However, until season 4, the ironsights on weapons didn’t have this tech. That meant that the ironsights reticles could move around with the weapon and actually be slightly inaccurate — they wouldn’t point at the screen center where the next shot would fire. With season 4, we have updated most of the weapons’ ironsights to properly stay centered now. Not all ironsights are upgraded yet, but we will be updating the remaining weapons as this season progresses. The weapons that will be updated for Season 4 are:
– Longbow DMR
– TripleTake
– Charge Rifle
– Sentinel Sniper Rifle
– Havoc
– R-301
– Flatline
– Spitfire LMG
– R-99
– Alternator
– Mozambique
– Mastiff
– RE-45
– Wingman

G7 SCOUT
Moved from “Sniper” to the “Assault Rifle” class.
– Now only accepts AR optics and attachments [including barrel stabilizers and stock].
– Still accepts Double Tap hop-up.
– Contributes to progress for stats/challenges for AR’s moving forward.
– Reduced fire rate 4.5 -> 4.0
– Increasing time between shots for double tap 0.425 -> 0.475
– Fixed bug where G7 had 0 ADS air spread, making it the only gun that was perfectly accurate on ziplines, etc.

L-STAR
– The L-STAR is no longer a crate weapon and can now be found around the map.
– Uses energy ammo.
– Reloading has been removed and the L-STAR will overheat after sustained fire so best to fire in short bursts to manage overheating and recoil.
– Damage reduced per shot 19 -> 18
– Rate of Fire decreased 12 -> 10
– Less horizontal viewkick when the weapon fires.

DEVOTION
Designer Notes:
The Devotion was chosen to go into the crate for a couple of reasons. Mainly 1) it is an energy ammo LMG, and so is the L-STAR and 2) data shows us that a fully kitted Devotion is actually one of the strongest weapons in the game, and could work at crate power level.

  • Removed from normal loot pool and is now a crate weapon.
  • Magazine size: 54
  • Total ammo stock: 162
  • Turbocharger functionality.

HAVOC
Designer notes:
With the removal of turbocharger, we wanted to buff the base havoc. Most notably, we are reducing horizontal recoil and making it easier to control.

  • No longer accepts the Turbocharger hop-up [turbocharger has been removed from the game] but can still equip Select Fire.
  • Decreased time between shots when using Select Fire hop-up .77 -> .56

R-99
– Reduced damage per shot 12 -> 11
– Increased magazine size for the first 3 tiers:
– Base: 18 -> 20
– Common: 20 -> 22
– Rare: 23 -> 24
– Epic: 27 -> 27

PROWLER
– Increased damage per shot 14 -> 15

HEMLOK
– Increased single-shot rate of fire 5.6 -> 6.4

WINGMAN
– Adjusted magazine sizes:
– Base: 4 -> 5
– Common: 6 -> 6
– Rare: 8 -> 7
– Epic: 10 -> 8

EVA-8
– Double Tap hop-up: reduced the delay between bursts: 0.85 -> 0.80

MASTIFF
– Fixed an exploit that players discovered and reported where you could rapidly fire the Mastiff.

GOLD WEAPONS UPDATE
The following will be the new set of Gold Weapons for Season 4:
– Havoc
– P2020
– Sentinel
– Prowler
– R-301

LEGENDS

BLOODHOUND
– Downing (not killing) players adds 5 seconds to Beast of the Hunt timer. It is possible to exceed starting time with successive kills.

CRYPTO
– EMP no longer destroys friendly Gibraltar Dome Shields.
– Dome Shields no longer can stick to Crypto’s Drone.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed bug that was causing players that reached account level 500 to crash or access their inventory or store.
  • Fixed bug where player level text would appear on the badges of level 100 badge when it wasn’t supposed to.
  • Fixed bug for some cases where players were unable to equip weapons from care packages when attempting to swap it with an existing weapon.
  • Fixes for a few bad spots in World’s Edge where players were getting stuck or getting to places they shouldn’t – thank you to everyone that’s been capturing and reporting these issues and keep them coming!
  • Fixed bug where sometimes when the Jumpmaster disconnects then the followers in their squad would float in mid-air and be unable to unfollow.
  • General stability fixes.

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Fixes for cases where approaching the edge of the Circle would make the players screen turn almost all white.
  • Updated colorblind settings based on player feedback.
  • Increased the timer for when you can still be credited for an assist after dealing damage: 5 seconds -> 7.5 seconds.
Favorite

– Community Request: Added a Random Favorites option for unlocked skins that can be found in the Legend customization menu.
You’ll see an option to “favorite” skins you’ve unlocked [Y button on consoles].
Choosing Random Favorite option from the skins menu will randomly cycle your chosen favorite Legend skins in between matches.

RollerDrone

Nerfed the Roller that falls from the Loot Drone.

– Reduced damage.
– Decreased radius of splash damage.
– Updated the visual FX to the explosion for better visibility.
– “Target Compensation” and “Melee Target Compensation” options have been moved to the “Advanced Look Controls” menu.

forgiveness

PENALTIES AND LOSS FORGIVENESS IN RANKED MODE

There are some changes coming to loss forgiveness to reduce abuse of the system. Loss forgiveness when a teammate leaves or fails to connect is unchanged, and is working as intended. We will be limiting the RP loss forgiveness when you leave once per day. If you exceed once per day more than three times per ranked series, you lose all forgiveness for the remainder of that series. Once these limits are reached players will no longer receive RP loss forgiveness when abandoning a match, regardless of the reason for quitting. We will continue to display prompts that alert you that leaving will count, and now will alert you when you are about to run out of loss forgiveness games.The scaling penalties are the same as last Series.

Engine

PLAYERS CRASHING WITH DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

Some player are experiencing an issue where Apex is crashing with a “DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG” error message. We are working closely with NVIDIA to help determine the cause of the issue and provide gamers with a solution (via updated driver or game patch) as soon as possible.

Helpful Information When Reporting:
Graphics card vendor/model (ie: ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080)
Driver version: (ie: 441.66)
Any pattern to repro? (specific location, certain duration of gameplay, etc.)

MATCHMAKING UPDATE
With this patch we’ll be pushing out changes globally to matchmaking that we’ve been testing in specific regions. We’re well aware that this has been a contentious topic among players and there’s been some misinformation out there so just to be clear: skill-based matchmaking has existed in Apex since launch and we’ll be continuing to improve it over time.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where the out of bounds timer would not display when perching on top of some buildings in Capitol City.
  • Fix for cases we saw where players would receive a client error when fighting Wattson.
  • Fixed issue with Octane’s “Laughing Fool” skin blocking player vision when using the 1x Holo Sight.
  • Fixed issue where players could get into unintentional hiding spots in the Train tunnels and around multiple buildings on the map.

  • Fixed bug where the trajectory line wouldn’t appear when trying to aim ordnance.

LEGEND BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where if anyone picks up gold shields while inside of a Gibraltar dome shield they will receive 63% faster healing when it should stay at 50%
  • Fixed a couple bugs with Bloodhound Passive skill: players could not see timers when looking at enemy tracks [clues] and tracks would expire 30 seconds sooner than expected .
  • Fixed bug where Wraith could take damage from Thermite ordnance while using her Tactical or Ultimate abilities.
  • Fixed visual bug for when Crypto first drops into game, the Drone UI reports that it is “recharging” (as if it has been destroyed pre-drop), but progress does not complete / progress.
  • Fix for Wattson’s Ultimate to prevent being able to deploy an Interceptor Pylon through walls.

LEGEND META

Gibraltar

  • Passive: Gibraltar revives squadmates faster while inside the Dome Shield.

Wraith

  • Removed the bonus move speed Into the Void and Dimensional Rift at the same time. Wraith will now move at their combined movement speed when they are both activated.
  • Increased cooldown for Into the Void: 25 seconds -> 35 seconds.

Crypto

  • Drone and EMP improvements.
  • Surveillance Drone increased the health 1 -> 30.
  • EMP no longer affects friendly traps/deployables.
  • EMP no longer slows friendlies.

CHANGE TO ENERGY MAGS

  • Extended Energy Mags removed
  • HAVOC mag size: 32
  • Devotion mag size: 44

Designer notes: We know that the removal of energy mags seems a bit odd, but it will make much more sense with the release of Season 4! It takes a while to make the bigger changes you see in the new season updates, and we generally make sure to filter out these changes from preceding mid-season updates. This time we made a mistake and shipped a change that wasn’t intended to go live until Season 4.TOURNAMENT MODE
This feature is limited to approved partners and allows them to arrange private player matches, record live footage via game client spectators, and view match results. Our goal here is to provide great tools for tournament organizers for setting up teams and matches at events and a better spectating experience for fans.

We’ve heard feedback loud and clear that the Peacekeeper is still feeling too powerful after latest changes. We are working to push out more tweaks to address it ASAP and will post details on timing and what those changes will be soon.

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Helmets and armor should now be more colorblind compatible and appear slightly more vibrant – please let us know if this improves the experience for you!
  • Added on/off setting that determines if taking damage while looting a deathbox closes the menu. You can toggle this in the Gameplay section of settings.
  • Improvements to final circle locations to help bad end locations and provide more variety.
  • Players that have auto-sprint enabled can now sprint out of a slide by using L3.
  • Added inspect animation for Lifeline’s Heirloom.
  • Fixed bug where “Thank you” key became unbound. It’s now back to its original default: “F1”.

  • Players will now receive a prompt allowing them to cancel Finishers in progress.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed bug where other players would appear to be in the wrong Rank (e.g. they are actually Apex Predator but appear Bronze IV)
  • Bunch of bug fixes to World’s Edge related to collision, geometry, supply bins spawning in bad areas, and cases where loot couldn’t be picked up in certain areas near Geyser.
  • Fixed bug where sometimes the Respawn Dropship would be silent when arriving.
  • Fixed bug where Bangalore would reference the Skullpiecer hop-up when pinging a Wingman.
  • Fixed issue where player banner would appear off center in the match summary / squad eliminated screens.
  • Fixed a visual bug where the progress bars for Shield Cells and Phoenix Kits appeared desaturated and hard to read.

  • Fixed bug where sometimes the Train’s lead car would detach from the rest of the Train after a player stops and then starts it back up.
  • Fixed bug for cases where players could get crushed by the Train while standing near the back of the front car.
  • Fixed bug where Legend’s faces would appear distorted in third person during matches and while browsing inventory.
  • Fixed issues with corrupted graphics and frame drops that we found were related to detonating ordnance in certain locations causing object to trigger bad pixels.
  • Fixed bug for cases where flying Crypto’s Drone near the Train can cause Crypto to move around without player input.
  • Fixed a bug where Crypto’s tactical hud looked like it was stuck recharging until you used it.

  • [PC ONLY] Fixed cases where players could not enter the Firing Range.
  • Fixed various issues related to players in other realms affecting each other in Firing Range including:
    • Seeing other Legends abilities and animations that are not in your realm.
    • Invisible zip lines.

LEGENDS

  • Wattson’s Trophy System
    • The trophy system is now significantly more aggressive in the way it shoots down grenades. Rather than just identifying between incoming and outgoing projectiles, it now predicts the trajectory of grenades thrown within the interception zone and intercepts them if they will land anywhere within that zone. This means that no grenade can contact any surface within the interception zone regardless of team, but players can fire grenades outwards from anywhere within the zone.

Apex Legends Patch Notes 3.1

WELCOME TO THE FIRING RANGE

From the lobby, you can now select the firing range. Here you can practice playing around with all the weapons, items, and Legends.

  • Can enter the firing range solo or with your squad.
  • You can change to any Legend and use their abilities and ultimates.
  • All loot items are available to play with including weapons, attachments, and hop-ups.
  • Target DUMMIES available to practice those headshots.
  • Future improvements to come! Please give us your feedback.

WEAPONS

  • Wingman
    • Reduced the headshot multiplier: 2.15 -> 2.1

    • Shotguns: All shotguns will have projectiles with a small amount of width.
    • L-STAR
    • Snipers: The Longbow DMR, Kraber, and G7 Scout.

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • In an effort to surface easier challenges to players more often and offer a balanced set of challenges each day, Daily Challenge distribution has been adjusted so players are guaranteed to receive 1 easy, 1 medium, and 1 hard challenge.
  • You can now spend Legend Tokens to reroll Daily Challenges.
    • Cost increases with each purchase before capping out at 1000 Legend Tokens.
      • First reroll: 200 Legend Tokens

      • Third or more reroll: 1000 Legend Tokens for each reroll.

  • You can now adjust the game cursor velocity in Settings -> Controller. This will apply to cursor velocity in all menus including the Lobby, Pause/Inventory menus, and Death Box inventories.
  • We now show you what Music Pack you have selected while dropping into the map. If you only have the “default” Pack selected you won’t see anything.
  • Improved flow from Lobby to Match that fixes some minor bugs and will hopefully get players into matches a bit faster.
    • Disabling pregame spawning of players before character selection. This will address cases where players might hear someone voice comms or other sounds before the Legend selection starts.
    • The “Waiting for Players…” transition now shows the game world instead of a black screen.
    • Removed the 5 second countdown that would start at the beginning of Legend selection.
  • Player will now be able to view the ammo types of their squadmates equipped weapons when in the inventory menu.
  • [Controller] you can now open the quip wheel by holding down on the dpad (you can still do it the old way – open ping menu and press Y)
  • [PC] Quick Chat binding should now auto bind to F1 if it isn’t bound to anything (assuming nothing is already bound to F1)

RANKED MODE

  • Players will no longer receive a penalty for abandoning a match if they leave after 2 and a half minutes have passed since their Banner was picked up after dying. As a reminder: players will be warned via the menus if their leaving may trigger abandon penalties; if the warning does not show up players are free to leave.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where players would stay in place while the train keeps moving when reviving another player.
  • Updated the layout of the minimap that was previously showing a route that doesn’t exist.
  • Fixed cases where players could drop into Out of Bounds areas without getting the timer.
  • Fixed cases of some areas where players could take lava damage near the Volcano when there isn’t any lava.
  • Fixed display issue with post game where it would show you earning 2 battle pass levels for leveling up via Stars.

LEGENDS

  • Crypto
    • EMP now will damage armor that players have dropped.
    • Fixed a bug where Lifeline’s drone couldn’t heal Crypto while he was in the drone.
    • Fix for friendly Caustic gas kicking Crypto out of his drone.
  • Bangalore
    • Fixed bug where sometimes the missiles from Bangalore’s Ultimate would disappear after landing on the train.

Apex Legends Season 3: Meltdown Patch Notes!

A NEW LEGEND APPEARS: CRYPTO

Cool, calm, and collected, Crypto deploys a specialized surveillance drone to stay in the fight and out of the spotlight.

CRYPTO’S ABILITIES

NEW MAP: WORLD’S EDGE

worldsedge.PNG

After multiple suspicious setbacks during the reconstruction of Kings Canyon, the Syndicate has decided to move the Games to the cliffside mining city known as World’s Edge on nearby Talos. Legends can explore towering skyscrapers “frozen” by a chemical explosion, then catch a train to ice-covered hills, while avoiding deadly pits of molten lava if they want to be crowned Champion in this new arena.

WHERE IS KINGS CANYON?

For the start of Season 3 World’s Edge will be the only playable map across both regular and ranked matches. As the season progresses we’ll be looking at data, sentiment, and feedback to help us determine the best way to bring Kings Canyon back into the mix.

NEW WEAPON: CHARGE RIFLE

charge_rifle.jpg

This energy rifle/sniper takes a second to warm up and will do minor damage to players if you keep a bead on them before delivering a mighty blow to whomever is on the receiving end of it. The Charge Rifle is part of the standard loot pool and can be found all over the map.

NEW BATTLE PASS

Season 3 brings an all new Battle Pass! Check out the full details and rewards available in Season 3 here.

LEGEND META

All Legends

  • Executioner Perk: Previously, the Gold Armor perk, “Executioner”, gave a full shield recharge on successful completion of a finisher. In Season 3, all Legends will have this perk meaning–finishers will fully recharge your shields regardless if you have Gold Armor equipped or not. Gold Armor will now have a Guardian Angel perk that is detailed below in the Loot/Meta Changes section.

Gibraltar

  • Dome Shield
  • Players in the Dome Shield use healing items 25% faster.
  • Increased the throw distance by 60%.
  • Increased cooldown.
    • 20 seconds -> 30 seconds.
  • Defensive Bombardment
  • Decreased cooldown.
    • 4.5 minutes -> 3 minutes.
  • Decreased duration
    • 8 seconds -> 6 seconds.
  • Increased throw distance by 36%.

Bloodhound

  • Eye of the Allfather
  • Reduced the animation time to activate by 33%.
  • Now immediately tells you how many targets have been pinged.
  • Beast of the Hunt
  • Fixed an issue with FoV scaling messing up ADS aim sensitivity.
  • Reduced animation time to activate by 30%.
  • Increased movement speed bonus
    • 25% -> 30%

Bangalore

  • Rolling Thunder
  • Increased damage
    • 20 -> 40

Octane

  • Adrenaline Junkie
  • Fixed an issue with FoV scaling messing up ADS aim sensitivity.

Wraith

[Designer notes: We’ve pulled back additional nerfs for further testing, but Wraith’s power balance is definitely on our radar.]

  • Dimensional Rift
  • No longer deploys if you are downed before placing it.

Pathfinder

  • Grapple
  • Reduced the grapple projectile velocity by 33%, meaning it takes a fraction of a second longer to connect the grapple to the wall. The behavior once you are connected remains the same.
  • Zipline
  • Increased cooldown
    • 90 seconds -> 120 seconds.

WEAPON AND LOOT META

Hop-ups

[Designer notes: We think the number of hop-up types in the game is about as high as we want to go right now when we consider loot dilution and the likelihood of finding a desired hop-up. Going forward, we intend to rotate hop-ups each season — some may be removed from the loot pool to make room for new or returning ones. Below are the changes we’ll be making to hop-ups for Season 3.]

  • REMOVED: Disruptor Rounds
  • REMOVED: Skullpiercer Rifling
    • Wingman: Was 2.0 base / 2.25 with Skullpiercer. Is now 2.15 base.
    • DMR: Was 2.0 base / 2.5 with Skullpiercer. Is now 2.15 base.
    • The base headshot damage multipliers of the DMR and Wingman have been increased slightly.
  • NEW HOP-UP: Anvil Receiver
    • Attaches to: Flatline and R-301.
    • Rarity: level 4 (gold).
    • This hop-up empowers semi-auto mode; it offers highly increased damage, but at the cost of reduced rate of fire and double ammo per shot.
  • NEW HOP-UP: Double Tap Trigger
    • Attaches to: G7 Scout and EVA-8 Auto.
    • Rarity: level 3 (purple).
    • This hop-up makes each trigger pull fire a quick two round burst.

Consumables

  • Ultimate Accelerants
    •  20% -> 35%.
    • Ultimate charge restored increased
    • Reduced the amount in the world by around 40%.

GOLD GEAR CHANGES

  • Gold Backpack
    • The gold backpack has a new perk, “Guardian Angel”. With Guardian Angel, you will revive downed teammates with bonus health and shields (if they have armor).
  • Gold Armor

The gold armor will now have “Fast Use” (consumable items take half as long to use), which was previously on the gold backpack. Now, you will be able to tell when an opponent has the ability to heal faster by seeing the gold armor damage numbers.

WEAPONS

[Designer Notes: For Season 3 weapon changes, our goals were to encourage and improve longer range gunfights and reduce power on some of the weapons that have been dominating lately. We will of course be closely watching data and player feedback on these during the season.]

  • R-99
    • Base mag size reduction
      • Before: 18/22/26/30
      • After: 18/20/23/27

  • L-STAR
    • Substantial reduction to horizontal recoil.
    • Now comes equipped with 1x Digital Threat optic.
    • Reduced damage
      • 21 -> 19

  • Mirage – decoys will now go where directed when deploying them during the drop if Mirage isn’t the Jumpmaster.
  • Lifeline – D.O.C. Healing Drone will no longer float away after being deployed on Supply Ships
  • Fixed issue where Legends could show up as locked instead of selected when joining a match late.
  • Small improvements across UI to make fonts and other elements more readable.
  • When swapping weapons with one on the ground, attachments will now attempt to transfer to your stowed weapon in addition to the weapon you are about to pick up.

BUG FIXES

  • Wattson – fixed bug where sometimes the visual FX from her fences would not show up after being deployed.
  • Pathfinder – Fixed a bug with Insider Knowledge passive where Survey Beacon locations would disappear from the full map after activating them.
  • Fixed bug where players could sometimes receive additional Battle Pass rewards by leveling up two games in a row.
  • Fixed an exploit that allowed players to spam fire with the Peacekeeper.
  • Fixed bug where looting Lifeline’s Care Packages would not count towards the “Loot X amount of Care Packages” in the Battle Pass challenges.

  • PC – Fixed bug where model settings would be forced to “high” regardless of what setting was selected.
  • Fixed a bug where players could sometimes skip the landing animation after a long fall.
  • Fixed bug where sometimes map fog visual FX would disappear while looting a deathbox.
  • Rebalanced audio to address issues with footsteps, ziplines, and jump jets.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where sometimes a player’s reward would not display properly after completing a challenge that awards crafting metals.
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes players would see a different rare skin equipped to the Legend they are spectating when hanging from a ledge.
  • Fixed some issues related to script errors.
  • [Xbox] Fixed issue where sometimes players would have issues connecting to a match at the same time as their party forcing them to join Legend Select late with Legends already locked.

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • New Promo Window – A new feature we’ve added to the Lobby that will display offers and info and allows for direct navigation to the website or store.

WEAPONS

  • SMG weapons are no longer compatible with the 3x HCOG and 2x-4x variable ACOG scopes.
    • Note from design: Our goal with this change is to better define weapon archetypes and improve the looting experience so that players aren’t accidentally picking up a long range site for a close range weapon that they have to manually remove.

LEGENDS

Wattson

  • Wattson will now have low profile attributes [takes %5 more damage to base health]
  • Reduced the maximum number of Interceptor Pylons that can be active to 1.

Bloodhound

  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to cancel the start up animation for their ultimate when activated while using a zipline.

Check out the Apex Dev Tracker to stay up to date with other things we’re working on.

Iron Crown Event – Patch 1.16 Apex Legends

TL;DR – The Event includes:

  • Limited Time Mode – Solos

    • We are finally dipping our toes into the Solo waters. We’re going to put it out there and see what happens. Too early to say if this will become permanent or not – healthy matchmaking across all modes is priority. Give it a shot and let us know what you think.

  • Octane Town Takeover

    • New Town on Kings Canyon

  • Double XP for Top 5 & Wins Weekend

    • From 10am PST on August 16th through 10am PST on August 19th players will earn double XP for Top 5’s and Wins all weekend long. This bonus will affect both Account Level and Battle Pass progression.

  • A special Collection Event Apex Pack and Iron Crown Event Store

    • Available for a limited time!

  • With Bloodhound Heirloom Set Preview!

  • Exclusive event challenges with free loot.

    • Complete a variety of challenges to earn two Iron Crown Collection packs, exclusive Iron Crown event badges, and event currency (Crowns).

Limited-Time Mode – Solos

That’s right, we’re finally dipping our toes in the Solo waters. While we are committed to Apex Legends delivering a competitive, three-player squad experience, we’re going to put Solos in for a limited time. We are always striving to ensure healthy matchmaking across all modes, so it’s too early to say whether Solos will be permanent or not, but we’re going to watch and see what happens. As always, we want to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think.

Octane Town Takeover

Octane has taken over part of Kings Canyon and done a bit of remodeling to better suit his adrenaline-seeking tendencies. Check out the mega jump pad course and Ring of Fire to eliminate enemy squads in style. We’re always looking for new ways to weave Legend personalities into the map, and this change will remain part of Kings Canyon even after the event ends. If the community enjoys these types of town takeovers we’ll look into adding more for other Legends in the future.

A special Iron Crown Collection Pack

Apex Legends Collection Events bring a set of themed, limited-time content to Kings Canyon.  Open Iron Crown Collection Packs for a 50% shot at an Epic item and a 50% shot at a Legendary item from a set of 24 themed items. No Commons, no Rares, and no duplicates will be included in these packs.

A fixed loot pool with no duplicates means that if you unlock all 12 Epics and still have items remaining, you’re guaranteed a Legendary on every future Iron Crown Collection Pack opening.

Iron Crown Event Store

The Iron Crown Collection Event also introduces a new event currency, Crowns, which can be earned from challenges and received from Iron Crown Collection Packs. Crowns can be spent in the new limited-time event store to unlock Event-Limited Rare, Epic, and Legendary content.

During the event, if you unlock all 24 Iron Crown Collection Pack items, you’ll be able to get Bloodhound’s Heirloom Set with Apex Coins. The Bloodhound Heirloom Set will enter the standard Apex Pack bonus pool after the Iron Crown Preview Event ends.

Unspent Crowns will automatically convert to Crafting Metals at the end of the event. All Iron Crown Collection Packs and Iron Crown Store content are Event Limited.

Event Challenges with Free Loot

During the Iron Crown Collection Event, complete a variety of challenges to earn two Iron Crown Collection Packs, exclusive Iron Crown event badges, and Crowns.

Double Top 5 and Wins XP Weekend

From 10:00 a.m. PT on August 16 through 10:00 a.m. PT on August 19, players will earn double XP for Top 5 finishes and wins.  This bonus will affect both Account Level and Battle Pass progression.

  • Fixed bug causing incorrect calculation of Kill/Death Ratio in player stats.

  • Fixed an issue where sometimes a Care Package would clip into map geometry.

  • Fixed a bug that was sometimes showing Apex Predator ranked players RP as zero when viewing the badge in the Lobby.

  • Fixed issue with players having connection issues when trying to join a squad that has already played a match.

  • Fixed issue where Daily and Weekly Challenges would reset earlier than communicated in the game.

  • [Xbox Only] Fixed bug where players would sometimes not receive “The Player” achievement when hitting level 50.

  • Fixed a bug where sometimes Arc Stars would attach to players and some objects at a distance and appear to float off of them.

  • Fixed bug where sometimes Arc Stars would not explode or do no damage when it detonates.

  • Fixed issue with players sometimes unable to unlock the “Double Duty” Badge.

  • Fixed bug where sometimes using a healing item while experiencing bad ping would cause them to heal for twice as much.

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Added a Death Recap to the end of match summary that will display a damage summary of your last battle.

Post image
  • Improved the UI during the Match Summary to better show Battle Pass progression.

Post image
  • Added In-game Survey

    • While playing you may get a prompt that will pop up asking if you enjoyed the last match. This data will be helpful to us so please provide your input when you see it.

Post image
  • Added option to spectate enemies after dying.

  • Added option to “Invite Squad” in the Squad Tab.

  • Players should no longer lose RP when experiencing a server crash or disconnect in Ranked Mode.

  • Fixed issue where squadmates could not ping a friendly Wraith portal.

  • Fixed issue where players could pull other players out of a match by joining them, and then joining another friend from the Lobby.

  • Fixed issue where sometimes a player would get left behind from their squad in the Lobby after they enter a match.

  • Fixed issue where players would sometimes get a “Party Not Ready” error message even though they were no longer in a party.

  • Fixes that should improve overall game stability to reduce crashes.

WEAPON BALANCE

Disruptor Rounds with Alternator:

  • Reduced Shielded damage multiplier 1.7 -> 1.55.

    • Designer Notes: Disruptor rounds on the alternator are shredding shields a bit too quickly and still proving to be stronger than intended, so we’re reducing the disruptor rounds multiplier on shield damage.

RE-45:

  • Increased Magazine Size for all tiers to the following:

    • Base: 16

    • Common: 19

    • Rare: 22

    • Epic: 25

    • Designer Notes: We’re giving the RE-45 a small boost in power by giving it one more round for every mag size. Downing a non-fortified enemy with the RE-45 with 0, 50, 75, and 100 shields requires 10, 14, 16, and 19 shots respectively, so this extra round gives the gun the ability to one-mag more armored enemies instead of leaving them barely alive.

R-301:

  • Increased vertical and horizontal recoil. Slightly increased recoil pattern randomness.

    • Designer Notes: We’ve made these changes as we’ve seen that the R301 is a bit stronger than intended at long range. We’ve adjusted recoil to balance keeping it effective at medium to close range–which is the original intent–but it should be more difficult for players to auto fire and still laser enemies at long distances.

Post image

LEGENDS

General

  • Made adjustments to Pathfinder’s and Low-Profile Legends hitboxes.

    • Taking shots to the hip now does torso damage instead of leg damage. This should more closely match the behavior of the other Legends.

  • Fixed a bug where activating a healing item would cancel the Ultimate for Legends that need to prime it [Bangalore / Pathfinder / Caustic / Gibraltar / Bloodhound]

  • Fixed an exploit where players would sometimes be able to still shoot while downed.

Bloodhound

  • Increased the distance that Bloodhound can see traversal clues left by other players [but not other kinds of clues] to 25 meters.

  • Adjusted the area of effect for Bloodhound’s Tactical to 125 fov.

Wraith

  • Based on player feedback, we’ve reduced the “hum” audio that’s playing while using Wraith’s Kunai.

  • Fixed issue where actions for Wrath would have a slight delay when her weapon is holstered and crouching or sliding while the kunai is equipped.

  • Fixed an exploit that allowed players to remove the cooldown for Wraith’s Tactical Ability.

Mirage

  • Fixed bug where Mirage was able to stay invisible and still be able to shoot and melee when using his Ultimate on a zipline.

Octane

  • Fixed bug where sometimes Octane’s Jump Pad would not launch the player.

  • TACTICAL: Perimeter Security

    • Create electrified fences by connecting nodes. Fences damage and slow enemies.

  • ULTIMATE: Interception Pylon

Watch her in action here.

RANKED LEAGUES

Check out the full details on our goals, how Ranked Mode works, and more here.

One thing we forgot to mention in the blog post: Players abandoning in Ranked will be penalized both with a matchmaking penalty, as well as have any potential RP gains zeroed out. On top of that, they will pay an additional penalty RP cost equal to their match entry cost. For example: if a Gold player gets 4 kills and would have finished top 5 but abandons his or her match on purpose, that player will get 0 RP for kills and placement, pay the 2 RP entry cost, and on top of that pay another 2 RP abandon penalty cost.
